Hello

A young woman with short brown hair and round glasses smiling against a dark blue background.

My name’s Izzy. I’m a qualified, integretive counsellor specialising in complex trauma and neurodiversity. I love to understand people, and to help them to understand themselves. I know just how hard it can be to navigate a complex, challenging world, and I hope I can offer space and guidance to travel alongside you.

I believe that every person I've ever worked with has been doing the best they can with the resources they have. Not everyone has the same resources as others do, whether by trauma, neglect, poverty, neurodiversity or discrimination, many people are trying to navigate life without the tools and skills they are often expected to have. My goal as a counsellor is to try to help you rebuild and learn these missing resources to help you to navigate life with resilience, confidence and joy.

There are many different ways we can do this, and I aim to tailor my approach to best fit the client. Some people need to be heard and validated, some need to learn practical tools, some need to explore and challenge, and some need to experience a safe, boundaried, genuine therapeutic relationship.

It's been my greatest joy and privilege throughout my career to get to know the people I've worked with in the deep, real way that I have, and to watch them blossom.

How I work

Person Centered and Relational

One of the main approaches I use is the person-centred approach. This means I will always be guided by you; your unique insight into yourself, your thoughts and feelings, and your needs and goals. I will provide a non-judgemental, empathetic, and genuine therapeutic relationship in which to explore yourself and realise your capacity for growth

Attachment theory

Another approach I integrate a lot is attachment theory. This is the theory of how our early relationships with caregivers impact on how we attach to others as adults. It can be very useful for understanding our relational patterns, and heal these wounds

psychoeducation

I use knowledge of how the brain works, and particularly how it responds to trauma and challenges during early childhood development, to understand and help you to understand your experiences and responses to the world around you, and to provide you with tools to self-regulate and sooth your nervous system

What I offer

Time limited and open ended counselling

Whether you want a fixed amount of sessions or an open ended contract, we can agree a length of time to work together, and how often we would like to review how things are going. Open ended contacts may be more suitable to people with complex trauma experiences, who may need time to establish trust and a relationship with me.

Remote work

Currently I’m only able to offer remote work. This can be via video using Google Meet, or by phone. I currently offer sessions Monday and Wednesdays between 11am and 4pm

Qualifications and specialisms

I am a qualified integrative counsellor registered with the BACP currently working towards accreditation. I have nearly a decade’s experience working in crisis, and especially with people diagnosed with personality disorders (though I understand this through a trauma perspective rather than a medical model) and people who have experienced complex trauma. I am comfortable working with people who experience suicidality, self harm and dissociation.

I am bisexual and autistic, and am passionate about working with people from minoritised and oppressed communities to provide a safe, affirming and accessible space
